New Delhi, Feb. 6 (PTI): Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the establishment of 22 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) around the nation under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana has been sanctioned thus far.
Out of the 22 AIIMS—Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Gorakhpur, Rae Bareli, Deoghar, Bathinda, Guwahati, Kalyani, Mangalagiri, and Bibinagar—offer teaching and learning, research, and patient care services. remarked Mandaviya in response to a query.
He stated that six of the 16 AIIMS—located in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, and Rishikesh—are operationally complete.
He told the Upper House that in addition to the 16 AIIMS that are currently operational, six more AIIMS are at various phases of operationalization and are located in Rajkot (Gujarat), Vijaypur (Jammu), Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Awantipora (Kashmir), Rewari (Haryana), and Darbhanga (Bihar).
“No proposal for establishment of new AIIMS has been approved by the government during 2022–23,” Mandaviya stated, adding that AIIMS at Guwahati has already been created and is operational in the Northeast.
