Filed a case :

The upcoming publication of a documentary series featuring Indrani Mukerjea, the main suspect in the infamous Sheena Bora murder case, has drawn strong opposition from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI quickly filed a complaint on Saturday with a special Mumbai court, requesting an immediate halt to the broadcast of the contentious show.

Reveal facts:

The documentary series titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth’ is set to reveal the complex facts pertaining to the perplexing vanishing of 25-year-old Bora. The series, which is slated to premiere on the well-known streaming service Netflix on February 23, has already prompted a legal dispute.

Trial :

In an appeal to the court, the CBI, through public prosecutor CJ Nandode, begged that it take action and order Netflix “to stop featuring the accused persons and other relevant individuals in the documentary, and to prevent its broadcast on any platform until the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”

Respond Notice:

In response to the urgent request, CBI Special Judge SP Naik-Nimbalkar summoned Netflix Entertainment Services India and other relevant parties to respond to the motion with timely notice. Given the seriousness of the situation, the court has scheduled a hearing on the matter for February 20.

Involved in crime:

The horrific incident took place in April 2012 and involved Sheena Bora, her driver Shyamvar Rai, and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna. It was allegedly committed by Sheena’s own mother, Indrani Mukerjea. The horrific destiny of Bora, the daughter of Indrani from a prior relationship, was revealed when her burnt remains were found in a wilderness in the Raigad district.

When the driver, Shyamvar Rai, admitted to his role in the crime after being arrested for unrelated offenses in 2015, it became widely publicized. Indrani Mukerjea was later arrested in August 2015, however she was granted bail in May 2022.

As the legal process continues, Rai, Khanna, and Indrani’s ex-husband Peter Mukerjea are currently also free on bail.
